Our Vision

Our Vision For The Future

At the Milton Food Hub & Community Garden, we have an exciting vision for the future. Our goal is to create a sustainable, accessible, and thriving community space that can continue to serve the people of Milton for generations to come. We are committed to building a Hub that not only meets the current needs of the community but is also flexible enough to evolve with the changing needs of the area.

Our vision is to transform the Milton Church Building into a modern, inclusive, and eco-friendly space that offers a range of services, activities, and resources to meet the needs of everyone in the community—from young children to seniors, from those seeking social support to those looking for personal development.

Why We Want to Develop the Building

The Milton Church building is already a much-loved and well-used space at the heart of our community. It continues to host vital services, events and activities—but we know it has even greater potential. While the building remains in active use, its current layout and facilities limit what we can offer and how inclusive we can be.

That’s why we want to secure funding to make the building more accessible, welcoming, and better equipped to meet the growing and diverse needs of local people. Our vision is to redevelop the building in stages—improving access, energy efficiency, and flexibility—so that it becomes a fully fit-for-purpose community hub for Milton, now and in the future.

The Building Project

The proposed redevelopment of the Milton Church Building is an ambitious project designed to address both the immediate needs of our community and create a facility that will serve future generations. The new space will be designed to meet the evolving needs of the people it serves, with a focus on accessibility, sustainability, and community-led design.

Key Features of the Redeveloped Hub[LE1]

Our building plans are guided by extensive community consultation, ensuring that the redevelopment reflects the needs, wishes, and aspirations of Milton residents. The new building will feature:

  • Flexible spaces: Large, multi-purpose rooms that can be subdivided for different uses, such as classes, community events, and private meetings.
  • Fully accessible design: The Hub will be accessible to everyone, with ramps, lifts, and accessible toilet facilities.
  • Eco-friendly features: We are committed to creating an energy-efficient building that minimizes its environmental impact, including high insulation standards, natural light, and sustainable materials.
  • Expanded facilities: More rooms and spaces to accommodate a wide range of services, activities, and community groups, including meeting rooms, offices, and a community café.
  • Improved kitchen and hospitality areas: A new kitchen space to provide community meals, a hospitality bar, and café services that are integral to the community spirit.
  • Modern technology and connectivity: Free Wi-Fi and ample plug points throughout the building, enabling the use of technology for workshops, meetings, and events.
  • Natural light and good ventilation: A design that incorporates natural light, good airflow, and a welcoming atmosphere, ensuring the space feels comfortable and inviting.

Staged Development

Due to funding availability, the development of the building will be carried out in stages, with each phase focusing on a particular aspect of the project. The development may include up to five stages, each building upon the progress made in the previous phase:

  1. Phase 1: Essential repairs and upgrades, including improvements to accessibility, security, and infrastructure.
  2. Phase 2: Creation of multi-purpose spaces, including a community hall, café, and meeting rooms.
  3. Phase 3: Expansion of outdoor spaces for events, gardening, and relaxation.
  4. Phase 4: Energy-efficiency improvements, including insulation upgrades and the installation of sustainable technologies.
  5. Phase 5: Final touches, including landscaping, additional amenities, and decoration, ensuring the building feels like a true community space.

This phased approach will ensure that we can start providing services and hosting activities as soon as possible, while also ensuring the long-term sustainability of the Hub.
